“Se per qualsiasi ragione, Barbara non potesse partecipare alle prossime edizioni della Wings for Life World Run, porterò la WFLWR a Giuliano Teatino”! Questa è la promessa che mia cugina Paola ha fatto a se stessa quando ha partecipato all’ultima edizione della WfLWR a Milano nel 2017. Ho mancato a quell’edizione dopo aver partecipato nel 2015 e 2016. E la promessa è stata mantenuta! Quest’anno abbiamo organizzato una AppRun nel nostro piccolo paese abruzzese. Abbiamo raccolto un totale di 2.884 euro che per una località di 1.200 abitanti è un ottimo risultato. E che giornata è stata! Ci siamo alzati con un bel sole, poi è arrivata la pioggia, poi il vento, e di nuovo il sole appena 10 minuti prima delle 13:00!Ci siamo avvicinati alla linea di partenza al grido di “We will rock you” e sulle note di “No easy way out” la corsa è partita.

Ho corso spinta da mia cugina all’inizio, poi altri corridori hanno preso il suo posto a turno fino a raggiungere 3,4 km. Non mi rendevo conto di quante persone fossero dietro di me, ma sentivo il rumore delle scarpe sull’asfalto e sembrava un’orchestra. I corridori che hanno ottenuto la migliore prestazione sono stati raggiunti dalla catcher car virtuale a 16 km. Ma il miglior risultato è stato l’entusiasmo delle persone prima, durante e dopo la gara… correre è la più grande espressione della libertà di muoversi, e “corri per chi non può” è il modo migliore per sensibilizzare sull’urgenza di trovare una cura definitiva per le lesioni spinali e rendere la paralisi reversibile.

Arrivederci all’anno prossimo, il 3 maggio! Con la speranza di avere buone notizie dalla ricerca medica.

Barbara e Paola “If for any reason, Barbara couldn’t partecipate to the Wings for Life World Run, I will take it in Giuliano Teatino”!

Who said this is my cousin Paola when she took part in 2017 to the last edition of WfLWR in Milan. I missed that edition after I partecipated to the 2015 and 2016 ones. So she made that promise to herself. And she kept it! This year we organized an AppRun in our little country town in the centre of Italy.

We raised totally 2,884 euros which for a country of 1,200 inhabitants is an excellent result!

And what a day we had! We got up with a beautiful sun, then they came rain and wind, and sun again just 10 minutes before the start!

We approached to the starting line on the cry of “We will rock you” and on the notes of “No easy way out” the race started.

I ran pushed by my cousin at the start, then other runners took her place at turn until the end after 3.4 km.

I couldn’t realize how many people were behind me, but I heard the sound of the shoes on the asphalt and it seemed like an orchestra. Four guys got the best performance having been reached by the virtual catcher car at 16 km.

But the best result at all was the enthusiasm of people before, during and after the race… running is the greatest expression of freedom to move, and “run for those who can’t” is the best way to raise awareness on the urgency of finding a cure for spinal cord injury and make the paralysis reversible.
